Our arbitration

The European Association of Arbitration, Aeade, set up in 2000, is registered in the National Registry of Associations (Registro Nacional de Asociaciones) under number 166,770. It manages arbitration proceedings as a conflict resolution mechanism in accordance with the Spanish Arbitration Law (Ley de Arbitraje). The Association also has at its disposal a means of amicable dispute settlement involving help from a neutral third party, known as mediation. The consent of all parties is required before any mediation proceedings can be started.

Aeade has been able to adapt to the great diversity within the business world and to the different types of contractual relations. Each of them requires different periods, experts and proceedings. As such, it is Aeade that adapts itself to each dispute, and not the other way around. This approach has allowed us to successfully manage disputes whist respecting the manner and delays expected by the parties in different sectors such as construction, engineering, urban renting, property co-ownership, franchising, telecommunications and services, to name but a few, thereby consolidating arbitration as an effective legal instrument for the resolution of all kinds of conflicts within the confines of the law. In 2008, arbitration proceedings concerning amounts greater than 3,000 Euros increased by 74% compared with 2007, whilst the average amount of the more than 500 proceedings administered was of 68,000 Euros.

From the outset, the European Association of Arbitration has positioned itself as one of the most important institutions in Spain in the arbitration field. The number of lawyers and companies which entrust the settlement of their conflicts to Aeade has multiplied by five in the past three years. Moreover, the Association has become actively involved in the popularisation of the arbitration mechanism through domestic and international seminars given at universities, business schools and bar associations.
