Letter from the President

At the European Association of Arbitration (Asociación Europea de Arbitraje), Aeade, we work with the aim of founding a veritable arbitration culture within Spanish society. Our organisation mainly focuses on the promotion of arbitration and mediation as conflict resolution mechanisms which make companies, lawyer and citizens feel that they are being looked after and protected.
The Spanish economy has suffered as a result of various developments in recent years, and as a result, our Association has needed to adapt its activities to the economic demands of companies and citizens in order to transform itself into an institution able to offer the best solutions to solve conflits arising in a range of business fields as varied as the buildings, engineering, corporate, telecommunications, franchise, urban renting, services, co-ownership of buildings and property sales sectors.
Upholding the values and benefits of arbitration (speed, specialization, impartiality, independence,
confidentiality, effectiveness and financial viability) has always been and will continue to
be Aeade’s goal so as to establish a climate in which all parties feel protected, and where understanding,
dialogue and mutual respect are essential strengths underpinning the effective
resolution of conflicts.
More than nine years of experience promoting arbitration and management of arbitral proceedings
has made it possible for us to successfully develop, leading to Aeade now being the leading
Spanish institution exclusively devoting all its resources, in terms of personnel and materials,
to the promotion of arbitration and mediation with the total conviction that they are the
ideal options for resolving disputes in the best possible way.
The future is full of challenges. As its tenth anniversary approaches, Aeade, is already a benchmark
institution in arbitration in Spain, and in the near future the Association will reap the rewards
from its investment in internationalisation and mediation.
Juan Ignacio Barrero Valverde,
Former President of the Spanish Senate, President of Aeade
